The Diestelhorst Bridge, in Redding California, is an existing 75 year old historically and architecturally significant concrete arch bridge that was converted to pedestrian use after years of traffic. A new bridge has been constructed for traffic that reflects and respects the historic bridge using a modern structural form and state-of-the-art construction methods...The replacement bridge has special environmental and aesthetic needs that preclude the use of a standard transportation structure. Well-used parklands at each riverbank demanded high aesthetic standards in the new bridge, and its crossing over spawning grounds for endangered fish species demanded a tight and reliable construction schedule. OPAC provided structural design services to prime local consultant Martin & Kane, including prepare of a concept report, type selection, design development, and supervision/checking of contract document preparation.
